âJust set up over there and tell me what the hell is going on.â Lazarus pointed to his desk in the corner. He could feel her emotions as she walked away from him. She was jumpy and panicky. Fuck. What happened to get her so wound up?
He followed Hoax as she made her way across the room, setting up and sitting down before she turned to look up at him. âIâve been working since Ariana and Moose left.â Hoaxâs fingers sped across her keyboard. âMore so since you returned and the information is bad, Lazarus.â
Annoyed at being interrupted during his intimate moment with Ariana, he barked at her, âTell me something I donât know.â
âPlay nice, Lazarus.â Ariana reappeared wearing jeans and a tee. âSheâs only trying to help.â
Hoax glanced at Ariana and smiled. She looked Ariana over, obviously checking to see if sheâd healed, and when she saw that Ariana looked better, she gave a slight nod to herself. âAs I was about to tell you, Iâve been looking at everything. All the chatter via texts and calls, as well as emails and anything else I can get my hands on.â
Ariana moved closer, eagerly listening. Lazarus wrapped an arm around her waist and drew her to him. He felt her strength now, saw it clearly like a light shining inside her. Her recovery astonished him. Could his blood be responsible? Possibly, anyway, Ariana was now back to full strength and he was grateful, but right now he needed to know whatâd spooked Hoax.
âAnd youâve found what exactly?â he asked pointedly. âYouâve interrupted us, in my bedroom, so Iâd like to know whatâs so important you felt the need to do that.â
The woman jumped, looking up at him with a face devoid of color. Shit. Heâd scared the hell out of her. Ariana saw it too and nudged him with her thigh before snapping at him. âLazarus, sheâs trying to help. Thereâs no need for you to talk to her like that. Hoax, I apologize for his rudeness. Please, carry on and tell us what youâve found.â
Lazarus huffed at both of them. He hadnât been that rude. To the point, maybe, but rude? No. Ariana glanced at him and raised an eyebrow in warning. Fuck. She knew him well already. Heâd been on the verge of saying something and sheâd stopped him with just a look. Damn it. Nobody else could do it. He would normally tell them to go fuck themselves, but with her, he simply shook his head and waited for Hoax to continue.
âTheyâre after you, both of you. And when I say they, I mean everyone. Tanith is on the warpath and she has everyone looking for both of you. Soon after you escaped it started. Word went out youâd escaped, and itâs clearly stated you were to be found and a reward would go to whoever managed to find out where you were. She thinks youâve returned here and itâs all over the place, but sheâs not certain.
